She had never played an instrument in her life. Now she’s having a blast making music with her fellow adult band members at Michigan State University’s Community Music School-Detroit.Watch

In the spring of 2012, WDET teamed up with Operation: Kid Equip on a project called Books For Kids. In X days, WDET members helped us raise enough money in 8 days to buy over 22,000 books for local kids in need. Over the summer, we worked with 13 nonprofit and neighborhood organizations to get the books into hands of kids throughout Metro Detroit. This is the story of those books and their impact.
Thank you to our members & the organizations that helped make this project possible:

In conjunction with Detroit Revealed: Photographs, 2000-2010, the DIA is hosted Reveal Your Detroit, a community-based photo project designed to solicit the public's creative response to the exhibition. The DIA collaborated with 55 community-based organizations whose members were each given a single roll of film on which to capture their perspectives on Detroit. Reveal Your Detroit also reached out to an online audience through the DIA's Flickr pool. The project ended on April 29 and is on display at the Detroit Public Library from June 15 to August 15. The display features a digital compilation of submissions, including those from The Detroit Free Press Detroit Self-Portrait project, the DIA's Flickr pool, and from community organizations. Reveal Your Detroit is funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

In Association With THE GRAMMYs, HYUNDAI VELOSTER Presents «RE:GENERATION»
Of all the current genres of music, electronic music in all its guises, is probably the most malleable. While the results are sometimes mixed, there are countless songs upon albums of electronic music taking, mutating and in the process re-inventing a genre of music. RE:GENERATION, a music project sponsored by Hyundai Velostar is the latest and by far the most ambitious undertaking of using electronic music to redefine and re-energize American culture's most influential genres of music. RE:GENERATION is a soon to be released documentary of the electronic artists who were paired with some of the America's most famous and historical (and still living) names in music. The documentary focuses on the collaborative songwriting and studio process of five tracks, each telling a story of how all the artists were impacted by what their partners brought to the table.
The entire documentary, directed by Amir Bar Lev, whose past documentaries include "My Kid Could Paint That" and "the Tillman story" is due to air in select theaters in February.
The collaborations for Re:Generation Music Project include:
1. "Breakn' A Sweat" by Skrillex feat. members of The Doors
2. "A La Modeliste" by Mark Ronson feat. Erykah Badu, Mos Def, Trombone Shorty, Zigaboo Modeliste & members of The Dap Kings
3. "Regeneration" by DJ Premier feat. NAS & The Berklee Symphony Orchestra
4. "Wayfaring Stranger" by Pretty Lights feat. Dr. Ralph Stanley & LeAnn Rimes
5. "I'm Not Leaving" by The Crystal Method feat. Martha Reeves (of The Vandellas) & The Funk Bros.

The Detroit Design Center creates one of a kind objects for any space.
The Detroit Design Center was commissioned to create three sculptural features at Quicken Loans, in the Rock Companies World Headquarters in Detroit Michigan. This film features one of these sculptures called "Three Brains". Inside this functioning salt water aquarium is a glass coral reef, created with hand blown glass including over 20 species of coral inspired by real species.
Detroit Design Center Founders Erik and Israel Nordin are proud to share their latest work.
