Description

Detroit was at the heart of the 20th-century's revolution in industry and labor organization. It now faces many complicated struggles that are being seen around the rest of the country. Redefining Dreamland tells the story of the city today through the eyes of its current residents. Rather than submitting to all of the typically negative media surrounding Detroit, this film explores where the positive action is taking place, and where it could be leading Detroit into the future. PRESENTED BY Side Porch, LLC sideporch.org & PRODUCED BY Orange Creative, LLC orangecreativemedia.com Redefining Dreamland presents the perspectives of people from all walks of life who are involved in the city of Detroit. These are people who are working to make the city a better place. From entrepreneurs to musicians and college professors to non-profit organizations, each person offers a unique perspective on the questions of "Why Detroit?" and "What is Detroit to you?" Some have lived in there for their whole life, others have just moved in to the city to see why so many people are talking about it these days. With all of the press that Detroit receives (most of it being sensational stories about violence and decay), it's easy for an outsider to overlook all of the good that is done here. Poverty and crime exist in abundance, but despite the harsh and sometimes deadly conditions, the citizens of Detroit persevere. Given the backdrop of what everyone assumes about Detroit -- the abandoned buildings, high crime rates, and a failing public school system -- the stories told in Redefining Dreamland are a testament to the tenacity of the human spirit. Here is a collection of people who refuse to accept the decline of this uniquely American city. Instead, they have an optimistic take on the future of Detroit. As more people see and understand and talk about the positive efforts taking place in Detroit, the movement to make the city better will grow faster and faster. The problems the city faces are enormous, but with enough time and commitment from people who wish to help the city and its residents, Detroit is well positioned to once-again become a city that leads the way into the 21st century. Total Runtime: 1 hour 14 minutes

there are/have been/will be a lot of documentaries, stories, articles, news reports, opinions and perspectives about the city – but right now there is only one that i'm interested in, that I feel will truly embody the spirit of the people who are investing their lives in creating the future of detroit. and just like the city, it needs the support and good faith of the people that live, work and play here to make this documentary a reality ...
